Role: Finance Manager

Reporting to: Executive Director

Summary Role Description

GESL’s Finance Manager will provide support to GESL’s finance department to ensure adequate financial implementation and management of financial resources in line with GESL’s rules and procedures regarding all financial procedures.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop financial strategies by guiding GESL’s leadership team to establish goals; and matching goals to appropriate financial plans.
  • Offer advice regarding financial management information to GESL’s Finance and Admin Coordinator.
  • Design and contribute to the implementation of more effective policies and procedures guiding financial management processes and procedures.
  • Support, guide and work closely with GESL’s Finance and Admin Coordinator to monitor the budget, analyses financial plans, evaluate strategies and recommending changes where appropriate.
  • Support with annual budget preparation and tracking, proposal budgeting
  • Support with audit preparation, facilitation and close out
  • Review monthly financial reports generated
  • Review of monthly bank reconciliations and cashflows
  • Compliance- statutory, regulatory bodies
  • Liaise with appropriate Tax entities to ensure tax compliance by overseeing annual financial
  • In his/her role, the Finance Manager should help GESL ensure:
  • Presence of established cash control mechanisms.
  • Updated and accurate accounting system.
  • Regular internal audits are taking place of the existing financial management systems, procedures and practices.
  • Identifies capacity gaps and areas which may require improvement and strengthening within the finance department.
  • Review of all Finance documentation prior to board or donor submission- including but not limited to monthly, quarterly and annual and donor financial reports.

Reporting and Role Management

The Finance Manager will be working closely with the Executive Director and work closely with the finance team of the organization.

Time Commitment and Participation: This role is full time.

Required Qualification, Skills and Experience

  • Preferably a CPA or Masters degree in related fields
  • High level budgeting and budget management skills
  • Able to translate financial information for decision making
  • Strong computer skills (familiarity with MS Suite)
  • Familiarity with Quickbooks and other financial software/systems preferred
  • Very strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Very strong skills in financial management of programs
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to network and represent GESL at very high-level engagements.
  • Strong work ethics and integrity.
  • Passionate about the development of Girls and making a contribution to that development

Freetown with periodic monitoring visits up country
