Finance Manager

Job Description

Baikal Group is seeking a Finance Manager in Uganda to lead our finance function and support our mission of closing the credit gap for Africa’s gig workers and SMEs through innovative financing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts and financial statements in accordance with Ugandan Accounting Standards (UAS) and IFRS.
• Manage journal entries, reconciliations, and routine ledger postings.
• Maintain and update the Chart of Accounts, ensuring accuracy in general ledger accounts.
• Oversee period-end closing processes, including closing entries and opening balances.
• Ensure compliance with URA tax regulations (PAYE, VAT, WHT, Corporate Tax) and manage timely filings and payments.
• Develop budgets, cash flow forecasts, and financial performance reports.
• Establish internal controls and financial policies.
• Coordinate audits and provide accurate financial data.
• Support senior leadership with financial analysis and recommendations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA/ACCA is a plus).
• Proven experience in an accounting or finance role in Uganda, preferably in financial services or fintech.
• Strong knowledge of UAS, IFRS, and Ugandan tax laws.
• Hands-on experience with URA e-services and tax compliance.
• Proficiency in accounting software and advanced MS Excel skills.
• High integrity, strong analytical skills, and attention to detail.
