Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) is a fully coordinated beverage business in Diageo Africa (supply and demand for beer and spirits).UBL’s flagship brand is Bell Lager. Headquartered in Kampala, UBL is also the distributor of several global Diageo international world-class spirits brands such as Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Gordon’s, Bailey’s and Captain Morgan.

We are looking for a senior leader to take up a key position within the Uganda Breweries Ltd. Marketing team. The role is critical to the overall EABL strategy as it leads the UBL Spirits strategy, and the implementation of the full breadth of the brand activities.

The role is expected to provide leadership and mentorship to Brand Managers with a dotted line to shopper managers and develop robust talent development interventions.

Role Responsibilities

The Marketing Manager- Spirits is responsible for delivering the Spirits strategy, ensure a consistent profitable growth of the Spirits portfolio while ensuring yearly plans are achieved and lead and mentor the brand team.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Enable performance through coaching, feedback, driving accountability to deliver outcomes with speed and agility.
  • Work with the commercial teams to ensure their commitment and engagement in the plans, in order to deliver perfect execution.
  • Inspire and empower agencies to implement brilliantly – working pre-dominantly with promotions and media agencies.
  • Champion the Spirits brand agenda across the region and collect findings.
  • Cultivate an inclusive culture by creating psychological safety for your team and conditions to deliver strong team performance.

Role Responsibilities

  • Leads execution of the strategic marketing plans, with dedication and participation from key collaborators, to achieve volume, mix, market share and profit objectives.
  • Leads the development of the brands Game Plans and ensures brand positioning is clear, consistent and distinctive. Champions the concept of brand equity in their brands.
  • Handles client/agency relationship and challenges the agency to ensure the best possible output on the brand. Leads the agency to achieve innovative media plans which optimize the marketing budget and increase impact.
  • Is responsible for the development of innovations and renovations which optimize the brands’ equity. Assesses these through a clear understanding of brand values, consumer motivations and the competitive context.
  • Uses data to anticipate competitive and consumer trends, assesses strategic implications and optimizes business potential based on analysis.

Qualifications

A business-related degree or equivalent.

Experience / skills required

  • Over 8 years of experience in marketing, including leadership roles; with a minimum 5 years experience in consumer marketing.
  • Strong commercial exposure and understanding.
  • Worked in Manufacturing or FMCG.
  • Strong Brand Building skills
  • Strong project management skills – able to lead multiple projects and implement them all well.
  • Ability to handle multi-market stakeholders and global brand governance policies.
  • Strong people performance – able to inspire and mobilise people (both direct reports and a broad range of others) to deliver great results
