Job Title

Post-harvest losses remain a significant challenge affecting food security, household incomes, and market efficiency, particularly among smallholder farmers. In response, [Organization Name] seeks to develop a comprehensive Post-Harvest Management (PHM) Training Module aimed at strengthening the capacity of farmers, extension workers, and community groups to reduce losses, improve quality, and enhance market readiness.

This Terms of Reference (TOR) outlines the requirements for the procurement of a qualified consultant/firm to develop and design a structured, user-friendly, and context-specific training module. The overall objective is to develop a high-quality Post-Harvest Management Training Module that is practical, scalable, and tailored to local agricultural systems.

Responsibilities

The selected consultant/firm will undertake the following tasks:

  • Review existing project documents, policies, and training materials.
  • Conduct stakeholder consultations (project staff, farmers, extension officers).
  • Identify gaps in current post-harvest practices and training resources.
  • Develop a structured training module covering, but not limited to:
    • Introduction to Post-Harvest Management.
    • Causes and Impact of Post-Harvest Losses.
    • Harvesting Techniques and Timing.
    • Handling and Sorting Practices.
    • Storage Technologies and Solutions.
    • Pest and Disease Control in Storage.
    • Value Addition and Processing.
    • Packaging, Transportation, and Marketing.
    • Food Safety and Quality Standards.
    • Climate-Smart Post-Harvest Practices.
    • Gender and Social Inclusion in PHM.

Deliverables

The consultant/firm will be expected to deliver:

  • Inception report with methodology and work plan.
  • Needs assessment report.
  • Draft Post-Harvest Management Training Module.
  • Facilitator guide and participant manual.
  • Designed and formatted training materials (print and digital).
  • Validation workshop report.
  • Final revised module and tools.

Timeline

The assignment is expected to be completed within a period of 2 to 3 weeks from the date of contract signing.
