Job Description

Job Description

We are seeking an Electronic Design Tutor/Mentor with strong PCB design and power-electronics experience to lead schematic and board design, run simulations, and mentor junior engineers. The role combines hands‑on design (analogue and digital) with tutoring responsibilities: teaching schematic practices, troubleshooting design issues, and guiding EE solutions from concept to production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead schematic capture and PCB design for mixed‑signal systems (analogue, digital, and power).
  • Design and validate power systems: switching regulators, buck converters, DC‑DC converters, power sequencing and thermal design.
  • Perform circuit simulation and analysis using PSpice, LTspice (and similar tools); validate stability, transient and thermal behavior.
  • Implement and validate high‑speed digital interfaces and signal‑integrity best practices (impedance control, routing, termination).
  • Design and integrate FPGAs and digital peripherals (I2C, SPI, UART, etc.); support FPGA‑to‑PCB interfaces and constraints.
  • Use Mentor Graphics tools (Xpedition/Expedition, HyperLynx where applicable) for schematic, layout, DRC, and signal‑integrity checks.
  • Prototype bring‑up, debug boards in lab (oscilloscope, logic analyzers, power analyzers) and support failure analysis.
  • Produce clear documentation: schematics, BOMs, layout notes, test plans, and design reviews.
  • Mentor and tutor junior/mid‑level engineers: teach schematic capture, simulation workflows, PCB layout principles, debugging methods and design tradeoffs.
  • Provide design reviews and actionable guidance to accelerate problem solving and reduce iteration cycles.

Required Skills & Experience

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 7+ years practical experience in PCB schematic and layout for mixed‑signal systems (analogue + digital + power).
  • Proven experience with switching regulators and buck converters (topology selection, loop compensation, layout considerations).
  • Proficiency with PSpice and/or LTspice for circuit simulation and analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of high‑speed design practices and signal integrity fundamentals.
  • Hands‑on experience with FPGA integration and common digital buses (I2C, SPI, UART).
  • Experience with Mentor Graphics Xpedition (schematic and PCB layout workflows).
  • Practical lab skills: board bring‑up, measurement equipment, debugging methodologies.
  • Experience mentoring or teaching engineers, with clear communication and documentation skills.

Nice‑to‑have

  • Experience with HyperLynx or other SI/PI tools.
  • Familiarity with power system thermal and EMC/EMI mitigation techniques.
  • Experience with production support, DFM/DFX and vendor interaction.
  • Prior experience developing internal training materials or running workshops.

Personal Attributes

  • Patient, clear teacher who can explain complex concepts in simple terms.
  • Strong problem‑solving mindset and pragmatic approach to tradeoffs.
  • Good verbal and written communication; able to lead design reviews and present technical findings.
  • Collaborative, comfortable working across hardware, firmware and manufacturing teams.

Tools & Environments

  • EDA: Mentor Graphics Xpedition/Expedition, Altium or Cadence knowledge a plus.
  • Simulation: PSpice, LTspice.
  • Lab: oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzer (preferable).
  • Version control and issue tracking tools.

Deliverables / Success Metrics (examples)

  • Robust schematics and PCB layouts delivered on schedule with minimal rework.
  • Stable power supplies meeting electrical and thermal specs in first prototype iterations.
  • Reduction in recurring design errors through mentoring and shared best practices.
  • Documented training materials and improved junior engineer performance.
