Senior Engineering Geologist

Job Description

A top consulting engineering firm is seeking to employ a Senior Engineering Geologist in the Geotechnical Engineering Department. This role offers the successful candidate the opportunity to work in a collaborative, technically rigorous environment where mentorship and knowledge-sharing are key while contributing to high-profile mining, industrial and infrastructure projects in South Africa and the region.

Requirements

• BSc (Hons) Engineering Geology (minimum)
• Professional registration with SACNASP essential
• Involvement in voluntary associations would be beneficial (SAIEG)
• Minimum of 10 years’ practical experience in engineering geology
• Strong track record in geotechnical investigations for a variety of sectors, both in South Africa and Africa
• Dolomite-specific experience would be advantageous
• Rock engineering specific experience would be advantageous
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and supervise junior engineering geologists and geotechnologists

Key Responsibilities

• Geotechnical investigations: Planning, execution, and reporting for a variety of investigation levels (preliminary, feasibility, detailed design)
• Data analysis: Collection, analysis, and interpretation of geotechnical data
• Site supervision: Supervising geotechnical contractors and junior staff, including appointment of contractors, oversight of site operations, and ensuring adherence to project timelines, quality, and environmental standards
• Mentorship: Supervision and mentoring of junior staff (students, graduates, junior engineering geologists and geotechnologists)
• Reporting: Preparation and delivery of professional quality technical reports and presentations
• Decision making: Providing sound technical solutions and decisions throughout project phases
• Project delivery: Ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to client specifications
• Procurement of work: Preparation of quotations, tenders, specifications, and cost estimates
