Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities / KPI’s

1. LV/HV Systems Management

  • Maintain and operate LV and HV electrical distribution systems.
  • Monitor system performance to ensure reliability and efficiency.
  • Ensure proper functioning of transformers, switchgear, and substations.

2. Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and repair faults in LV/HV systems and associated equipment
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical infrastructure.
  • Respond promptly to power failures and electrical breakdowns.
  • Conduct testing, inspection, and calibration of electrical equipment.

3. Power Distribution & Reliability

  • Ensure stable and continuous power supply to plant operations.
  • Analyze system loads and performance to prevent overloads or failures.
  • Support load balancing and power optimization activities.

4. Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all electrical work complies with safety standards and regulations.
  • Enforce lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) and isolation procedures
  • Conduct risk assessments for electrical maintenance activities.
  • Support incident investigations related to electrical systems.

5. Network & Equipment Support

  • Maintain substations, circuit breakers, panels, transformers, and cabling systems.
  • Inspect and maintain earthing and grounding systems.
  • Ensure proper protection systems (relays, breakers) are functioning correctly.

6. Project Support & Implementation

  • Participate in installation, commissioning, and upgrades of electrical systems.
  • Assist in design reviews and equipment selection for new projects.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors on electrical works.

7. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate electrical drawings, schematics, and system documentation
  • Record maintenance activities, failures, and corrective actions.
  • Prepare technical reports and system performance updates.

8. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering teams.
  • Provide technical support to electricians and plant personnel.
  • Liaise with vendors and service providers.

9. Training & Knowledge Transfer

  • Train staff on safe operation and maintenance of LV/HV systems
  • Develop SOPs and maintenance procedures.
  • Promote best practices in electrical safety and operations.

10. Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure adherence to company engineering standards and regulatory requirements
  • Support electrical audits and inspections.
  • Follow change management procedures for modifications.

11. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Comply with all HSE policies and procedures.
  • Identify and mitigate electrical hazards.
  • Promote a strong safety culture within the team.
  • Support environmental compliance in electrical operations.

12. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Electrical system uptime and reliability.
  • Number of electrical faults and system failures.
  • Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
  • Preventive maintenance compliance rate
  • Safety compliance and incident reduction.
  • Response time to power-related issues.

Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge

1. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or related field.

2. Experience

  • Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in LV/HV electrical systems maintenance.
  • Experience in mining, processing plants, or heavy industry (preferred).
  • Proven experience with electrical distribution systems and substations.

3. Technical Knowledge

  • LV/HV power systems and distribution networks
  • Transformers, switchgear, and substations.
  • Electrical protection systems and relays.
  • Cable systems and installation standards.
  • Earthing and grounding systems.
  • Electrical safety standards and regulations.

  • Report any health, safety and environmental concerns, incidents, or near misses promptly to the designated supervisor or safety officer.
  • Assist in identifying workplace hazards and participate in risk assessments to minimize risks to personal health and safety.
  • Wear appropriate PPE as required for specific tasks or environments and ensure that it is maintained and used correctly.
  • Be familiar with emergency response procedures, including evacuation routes, assembly points, and first aid protocols.
  • Follow established safe work practices and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, or illnesses.
  • Operate machinery, tools, and equipment safely, following manufacturer's instructions and the AML safety guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workspace to reduce hazards and prevent accidents.
  • Promote a culture of health and safety awareness among coworkers by encouraging safe behaviors and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in health and safety committees or meetings as required, providing input and suggestions for improving workplace safety.
  • Keep accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training activities as required by company policy and regulations.

Environment

  • Oversee and monitor the environmental performance of your department's functions, ensuring high levels of awareness and compliance with company environmental policies and relevant environmental laws.
  • Regularly review environmental performance metrics and indicators to track progress, identify trends, and address areas for improvement.
  • Ensure all environmental incidents are reported promptly and investigated thoroughly in line with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Uphold a culture of environmental responsibility and compliance within the organization by setting clear expectations for incident reporting and response at all levels.
  • Collaborate with the Environment team to identify opportunities for environmental improvement and develop strategic programs to enhance sustainability practices.
