Job Description
Job Purpose: To support and promote a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment by monitoring and maintaining occupational health, safety, environmental, and food safety standards across the site and operations. The role is responsible for ensuring compliance with legislation and company requirements, conducting audits and training, investigating incidents, supporting continual improvement initiatives, and assisting in the implementation of safety, health and environmental, to protect employees, the environment, and the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitors site compliance with Safety requirements.
- Maintain a working knowledge of health and safety requirements and make recommendations to Management regarding health and safety issues and implements health and safety compliance and audit functions.
- Involved in Personal Protective Equipment program selection, recycling, and auditing.
- Other projects may include Outreach, Auditing, Ergonomics and Industrial Hygiene assignments related to our Health and Safety programs, including OSHA compliance.
- Interact with production Team Members, Leadership, Product and Process Engineers, Facilities Maintenance and Engineering.
- Collect and analyze environmental data.
- Report generation and graphical information presentation.
- Monitor processes (e.g. basic industrial hygiene activities) and compile inspection reports.
- Research on pollution prevention (e.g. reuse, recycling and reduction initiatives).
- Participate in team problem solving and continuous improvement activities.
- Observe behavioral based safety.
- Involved in Personal Protective Equipment program selection, recycling, and auditing.
- Involved in training and assessments.
- Obtain an understanding of the importance of injury investigations and prevention of future incidents.
- Attend monthly safety committee meetings and assist with action items.
- Assist the Site Facilities Manager with any injury investigations and corrective actions.
- Internal Audits, External Audits and Staff Training Participate and support Company's food safety and quality objectives.
- Report all problems with Food Safety to the QA Manager who will initiate and record actions.
Qualification Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- A tertiary qualification in Safety Management / SAMTRAC
Experience Requirements
- FMCG experience will be advantageous
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to think analytically, independently, and outside of the box to provide fresh ideas to improve processes.
- Ability to work with people in a production/plant environment.
- Have excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft office and PC Skills.
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene, policy, and occupational safety is preferred.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation such as Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993 and all the regulations, inclusive of SANS/SABS codes and standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, Isometrix, O&TS, P360, or other SHE management systems.
