Job Description
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- Served in the grade of Assistant Fisheries Officer I for a minimum of three (3) years;
- Diploma in either Fisheries Management, Natural Resource Management or an equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
- Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution; and
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results
Duties and Responsibilities
- Undertaking statistical data analysis and compilation;
- Disseminating fisheries research information; monitoring, control and surveillance of the fisheries resources;
- Promoting fish marketing and value addition;
- Arranging on farm trials, field days and exchange visits;
- Training staff and fishers in spawning, rearing, and harvesting methods and use of related equipment;
- Training staff on feed formulation and production;
- Observing fish ponds and fish to detect diseases and promoting fish marketing and value addition.
- Monitoring water quality for signs of pollution;
- Carrying out frame surveys;
- Undertaking catch assessment; carrying out fisheries related licensing activities; and enforcing fisheries regulations;
- Inspecting fish handling facilities at fish landing sites, markets and farms; and undertaking frame survey.
