Job Description

Design and create visually engaging, user-friendly interfaces for websites and cross-platform applications (web, mobile, and tablet). Support the development and maintenance of the organisation's Atomic Design System by creating reusable, scalable UI components and patterns that enable consistent digital experiences across all products and channels.

Collaborate with senior designers, developers, product teams, and stakeholders to translate business and user requirements into intuitive, accessible, and visually appealing digital solutions. Contribute to the continuous improvement of design standards, user interfaces, and customer experiences while growing technical and design capabilities.

Key responsibilities will include amongst others the following:

User Interface Design

  • Create high-fidelity user interface designs, wireframes, mock-ups, and interactive prototypes for digital products across web, mobile, and tablet platforms.
  • Apply design principles, usability standards, accessibility requirements, and brand guidelines to deliver intuitive and engaging user experiences.

Atomic Design System Management

  • Contribute to the creation, maintenance, and enhancement of the organisation's Atomic Design System.
  • Design and document reusable UI components including Atoms, Molecules, Organisms, Templates, and Pages to support consistency and scalability across products.
  • Maintain design tokens, variables, component specifications, interaction patterns, and usage guidelines within the design system.
  • Partner with developers to ensure accurate implementation of design system components and standards.

Digital Channel Support

  • Assist in maintaining and enhancing customer-facing digital platforms by supporting design enhancements, interface updates, and user experience improvements.
  • Evaluate the visual and usability impact of platform changes and ensure alignment with design standards.

Collaboration and Product Delivery

  • Work closely with UI Designer, UX Designers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, Developers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective user interface solutions.
  • Support agile delivery teams throughout the design and development lifecycle by providing design assets, specifications, and implementation guidance

Quality Assurance and Accessibility

  • Review implemented designs to ensure alignment with approved specifications, design system standards, and accessibility requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews, quality assurance activities, and usability validation processes to maintain a high standard of user experience.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation

  • Identify opportunities to improve user interfaces, design processes, workflows, and team practices.
  • Contribute ideas that enhance customer experiences, strengthen design consistency, and improve operational efficiency across digital products.

Personal Capability Building

  • Maintain and develop expertise in UI design, Atomic Design principles, design systems, accessibility standards, emerging technologies, and industry best practices through continuous learning and professional development.

Qualifications and Experience required:

  • NQF Level 6 or 7 qualification (Diploma, Degree, Advanced Diploma, or equivalent) in Graphic Design, Digital Design, Multimedia Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Design, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of experience in UI Design, Digital Design, Product Design, Graphic Design, or a related discipline.
  • Exposure to designing user interfaces through professional experience.
  • Experience using modern design tools such as Figma, Jira.
  • Exposure to component-based design methodologies and Atomic Design principles.
  • Experience creating and maintaining reusable design components, variants, variables, and design libraries.
  • A portfolio demonstrating visual design capability, interaction design thinking, responsive design, and attention to detail.
