Job Description

Job summary: A welder is responsible for joining, assembling and repairing metal components using various welding techniques while ensuring safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities:

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings to understand project specifications and measurements
  • Measuring, cutting and shaping metal components using hand tools, plasma cutters or metal cutting machines
  • Applying welding techniques to join metal parts
  • Operating and maintaining welding equipment safely and efficiently including welding cells and flame-cutting tools
  • Inspecting and testing welds to ensure structural integrity, compliance and design requirements and adherence to safety standards (inspect welded surfaces, checking for cracks, gaps or weak joints)
  • Smoothing and finishing welded surfaces to remove imperfections and ensure proper alignment
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment following OSHA and other safety protocols
  • Any other work related duty as assigned from time to time.

Key knowledge and competencies/skills:

  • High School Certificate / Diploma or equivalent, vocational or technical training in welding
  • Professional welding certification is desirable
  • Hands-on experience from previous jobs preferably 2+ years, apprenticeships or training programs is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in various welding techniques, blueprint reading and equipment operation
  • Knowledge of safety protocols, use of protective gear and adherence to health and safety regulations
  • Precision in measurements, welding quality and material handling
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments including exposure to high heat, loud noises and outdoor conditions.
