Job Description

The Opportunity

Save the Children is seeking an experienced and dynamic Climate Technical Advisor – GCF Supported Programme to provide high-level technical leadership in the implementation of climate-resilient health interventions under a Green Climate Fund (GCF) supported initiative.

This role supports the strengthening of climate change adaptation within health systems, ensuring that interventions are evidence-based, technically sound, and effectively integrated into national and district-level planning and implementation. The position will work closely with government counterparts, technical advisors, and programme teams to enhance climate resilience and strengthen early warning and response systems.

The Climate Technical Advisor will provide rapid technical review and validation of ongoing activities, support the development and refinement of climate-resilient health frameworks, and contribute to the design of tools, guidelines, and standard operating procedures. The role will also support the establishment of technical tracking systems and quality assurance mechanisms to ensure effective programme delivery and accountability.

In addition, the postholder will play a key role in mentoring and building the capacity of local technical assistants through structured learning-by-doing approaches, strengthening national capacity for sustainable climate-resilient programming.

This is an exciting opportunity for a climate change and health professional with strong technical expertise and field experience to contribute to a high-impact programme that strengthens resilience to climate shocks and protects vulnerable communities.

The successful candidate is expected to be available with immediate effect to assume duty.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

To be successful, you will bring/have:

  • Master’s degree in Climate Change and Sustainable Development, Climate Science, or a related field; a Bachelor’s degree in Climate Change may be considered for highly experienced candidates
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in climate change programming within an international NGO context
  • Strong experience in climate-resilient programming design and implementation at scale
  • Demonstrated experience in capacity building and technical mentoring
  • Strong understanding of Early Warning and Response Systems (EWRS) and the climate–health nexus
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret and apply technical data
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience working with government systems, particularly in development and implementation contexts
  • Commitment to Save the Children values and willingness to travel to remote field locations as required

Desirable:

  • Experience working within WHO-funded programmes or similar donor-funded climate/health initiatives
  • Strong understanding of government institutional systems and coordination structures
